Glasgow Cathedral Festival
Echoes in Stone & Brass
Thursday 17 September, 2026 8pm
The ancient stones of Glasgow’s St Mungo’s Cathedral have witnessed almost nine centuries of change. Now, in a bespoke performance for the 10th anniversary of Glasgow Cathedral Festival, they find a voice of their own. Inspired by the tradition of improvised brass music performed in the vast sea caves of his native Faroe Islands, RSNO Principal Trombone Dávur Juul Magnussen is joined by the Rookh Quartet and several other guest musicians to reimagine this raw experience for Glasgow’s oldest building.
The programme will include improvisation and sound art, as well as works by Alisson Kruusmaa, Sofia Kiviniemi, Claire McCue, Drew Hammond, and Neil Tomas Smith.

We were very excited about travelling to the Orkney islands to give 3 concerts as part of the St Magnus Festival, so we're very sad that it has become a victim of the Covid-19 pandemic. We're looking forward to 2021 though!
